There are many temp agencies in Chicago that will hire felons. Not every job they offer will be felon friendly but it is a great way to search through many jobs at one time. Staffing/Temp agencies  will often have 20, 30 or even 50 openings at various employers throughout Chicago. The shear volume of jobs gives you a decent chance at finding a job.

  • Target – Depends on length of time since conviction and type of felony.

These organizations specialize in placing felons into jobs around the Chicago area and the state of Illinois. Sometimes this is the best option to find companies that hires felons. These organizations have very good, close working relationships with different businesses that will hire you without a problem.

Background Check Limits in Illinois

It is important to understand that some states have laws regarding how far back a criminal background check can go. Unfortunately Illinois does not limit the years an employer can search your criminal history. Here are the laws for other states if you are thinking about relocating.

Twelve states do not allow any felony conviction information older than seven years to be reported.

Some states will not report court cases where you were found NOT guilty: Hawaii, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Alaska, California, New York and Michigan.

These states will report unlimited numbers of years back of felony convictions and also report NOT guilty verdicts: Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Rhode Island, Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, DC, Florida, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Illinois, Louisiana, Maine, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
