Several newspapers came out with an article stating that criminal history questions are now removed from all target applications. This may make Target a felon friendly employer now.
Target stated in a press release that they will have criminal background questions removed from their applications by the spring of 2014. They also said that they do reserve the right to still do a background check as they feel necessary for associate and customer safety.
Target Stores Now Offer Jobs For Felons?
Reading between the lines we can probably assume that felons convicted of aggravated or theft charges will still be barred from employment at target stores. Many other convicted felons may still be allowed to work at Target stores though.
An insider told us that it really depends on what felony conviction you have, how long ago it was, the location of the store and how badly they need people. Each stores manager will differ on who they hire and what their felony was specifically for.
The good thing here is that you will now have a chance to interview face to face with the hiring manager long before a background is run on you. This is a great time to sell yourself to the hiring manager and to explain about your past felony conviction.
It has been about a year since target has changed their application policy but we still have not been able to confirm that they have started hiring felons. Please if you or someone that you know has been hired by target with a felony please let us know ASAP in the comment field below.
I applied at my local Target back in March of 2016. I was offered a job on the spot after going thru two face to face interviews. I was told once my background check was complete I would receive a call with a start date. I informed both managers of my Felony 3 charges (non violent) and was told (as I expected) its not up to them to decide but will forward the information on. Needless to say, Target never called. Clearly Target DOES NOT hire felons,
We have had some felons hired. It is depended on the type and length of time. They will not hire anyone with grand theft.
Okay so I have an update about this I recently applied for target for overnight, I did explain to the managers during my interview process that I do have an arrest record. (Second degree felony for drug possession) which is a non violent offense. So after the interview they still offered me the job and I had to go on a computer there at target to disclose my background for a background check. What I noticed with that system is it clearly said if you’ve been arrest and your case was “dismissed, pardon, sealed, expunge. Don’t select yes” which I fall under the dismissed category. Anyways my update is that I got a call from the store admin today saying I’m hired that my back ground check came trough good! So i hope this is helpful for you all who are wondering. My experience with getting a job with a felony arrest record is, you would have a better chance if it’s non violent. Also I don’t know if it helped because my case was dismissed and it’s been 5yrs since my offense, and I’ve never gotten in trouble since then. So yes it’s true target will hire felons under certain Circumstances!
Hi I am currently looking for a new CDL driving job that I will be home every night. I do have a felony 5 yrs old, also before my CDL’s I had a DUI 3 yrs ago…
I interviewed a few days ago did all the proper steps in signing documents and was offered a position , with a good wage however I have retail theft on my record and am nervous, I did tell her there was ” some problems” with my background check and she still offered the position, will I actually get hired with this on my record?
How did you get to the consent part to submit for ur background check??
Did they end up hiring you?!
I was denied employment by their third party company whom runs the background checks as I have a felony on my record for theft. They may say they do but I like to see the numbers because they wouldn’t even give me a job stocking shelves. FYI, they wanted to start me immediately and the interview went great!
Heyy, did you get the job?
