Several newspapers came out with an article stating that criminal history questions are now removed from all target applications. This may make Target a felon friendly employer now.
Target stated in a press release that they will have criminal background questions removed from their applications by the spring of 2014. They also said that they do reserve the right to still do a background check as they feel necessary for associate and customer safety.
Target Stores Now Offer Jobs For Felons?
Reading between the lines we can probably assume that felons convicted of aggravated or theft charges will still be barred from employment at target stores. Many other convicted felons may still be allowed to work at Target stores though.
An insider told us that it really depends on what felony conviction you have, how long ago it was, the location of the store and how badly they need people. Each stores manager will differ on who they hire and what their felony was specifically for.
The good thing here is that you will now have a chance to interview face to face with the hiring manager long before a background is run on you. This is a great time to sell yourself to the hiring manager and to explain about your past felony conviction.
It has been about a year since target has changed their application policy but we still have not been able to confirm that they have started hiring felons. Please if you or someone that you know has been hired by target with a felony please let us know ASAP in the comment field below.
All they have done is add the criminal background question form to the end of their interview process. So it hasn’t been removed completely. I have a felony DUI in Arizona and have been rejected by two different Target locations despite working there for 5 years in my teens and early 20’s. I would say they do not hire felons.
Hello I have a felony… My friend told me to apply to be a school bus driver.. My conviction is that 5 years ago …i was scared to say i had a record so i lie.. I have a interview coming up with the bus company …i was thinking any going there in telling the truth.. Or just not going..I have had no luck with finding a job
Von Maur will hire if you don’t have a “crime of trust” on your record….meaning theft, fraud, embezzlement, etc. They don’t seem to care about anything else…my friend with drug felonies including prison time got hired there.

I WAS CONVICTED IN 1988 FOR DISTRIBUTION OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE BY THE FED’S. EVERY TIME I PUT IN A APPLICATION I AM STRAIGHT UP AND LET IT BE KNOWN. LIVING IN FLORIDA DOESN’T HELP BUT IT’S INSANE TO ME THAT AFTER ALL THIS TIME THAT MY CONVICTION AT AGE 22 HAS ME UNEMPLOYED AT 52 FEELS LIKE I AM STILL DOING TIME!
Dont feel bad, I am from Vitginia and have 2 Felonies 1 from 1990 Breaking and Entering/ Grandlarcerny and Distribution charge in 2008 and am 45 years old. I have looked in the City or Richmond Va, which is I believe the worst biased state in America. Been doing Community College to make ends meet also. Our legislayion has to change.
Thank you for this information ,Does they have on in memphis tennessee?
Was offered a position yesterday at a okay starting pay but of course my concerns are with the background check. My felony is eluding the police and resisting arrest. Currently on probation for it, no theft or assault. Hoping for the best, will leave an updated comment once I hear anything.
I hope times have improved since I was
released in 2005. I was only able to find work at Fast food places in spite of having
A great work history with decent skills. Suggestions?
I have an interview coming up very soon. I was convicted of forgery(prescription) back in 2007, a few DUIs’ and a misdemeanor theft in 2010. I read this article as well as everyone’s comments and I feel somewhat hopeful. I found that I can also get a federal bond at no cost for employer or hired employee and is a tax credit for the company as well. I have interviewed with other employers and at the end of the interview I had to fill out and sign documents regarding my background. I was honest and still waiting to hear back from them? I’m unsure what to say or do as far as this interview because I need the job badly to support myself and my 2 daughters. These dead end jobs just aren’t enough at this point? I feel like I have ruined my chances for a successful career. My past doesn’t dictate who I am today. Any advise or thoughts would be appreciated…
Thanks,
TRE
If Target truly hires felons….why was my son hired and then turned down because of his record????? They either do or they don’t! Which is it Target.
I guarantee you, if your son’s record is lengthy, or it involves theft or robbery or violent crimes, they aren’t going to hire him, very few would. His best bet would be small, local companies for a while, until he has a couple years working history. I wish him luck.
I just applied for a job I’m hoping I get the job. It would be a blessing. My felony was 13years ago. For forgery prayers
